CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL fdny HEROEs ON ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH

May marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM).

To kick off #APAHM, I'm proud to recognize the local heroes tirelessly working to protect our communities every single day. The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) FDNY Phoenix Society strengthens the link between the Fire Department and AAPI New Yorkers, guides FDNY employees to become culturally-responsive and community-oriented leaders, and ensures that our diverse communities know who to count on when they need help.

Through its work, more New Yorkers can recognize, celebrate and uplift trailblazers like Sarinya Srisakul, the first and only Asian American woman firefighter, who pave the way for the next generation of Asian Americans rising up to protect their communities in the FDNY.

Thank you to the Phoenix Society and Commissioner Daniel Nigro for working to expand our idea of what a firefighter can look like. Happy #APAHM!
