Lunar New Year: Making Moves to Honor NYC's Diverse Cultures

To those in our community celebrating, I hope you all had a blessed Lunar New Year surrounded by family, loved ones and most of all — good food!

This year, we kicked off festivities with a bang at Sara D. Roosevelt Park's 20th Annual Chinese New Year Firecracker Festival. Afterwards, I joined Mayor de Blasio to announce the permanent installation of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen statue in Columbus Park.

This victory highlights the ongoing strides to honor the rich cultural diversity and history that make our City great. This was an effort several years in the making, and I thank everyone in the Chinatown community who worked to make this goal a reality. You can learn more about our efforts to make the statue permanent here.

I'm excited to announce that the Columbus Park plaza holding the statue will also be renamed in Dr. Sun Yat-sen's honor. Please stay tuned for updates on this front!
